Internationally acclaimed Lighting Designer Jimmy Lawlor is based in New York City, and his credits include engagements with some of the most prominent companies in the world of theatre, opera, dance, and corporate media. International credits include work in Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Mexico, Austria, Canada, and Germany.
New York projects include work at The Public Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, Theatre Row, HERE Arts Center, NYU, PS 122, LA Mama ETC, The Joyce, Epic Theatre Ensemble, The Vineyard Theatre, Atlantic Theatre Company, Ars Nova, Classic Stage Company, Cherry Lane Theatre, Symphony Space, Leon Goldstein Theatre, NYU, The New School for Drama, NY Children's Theatre, and NY Fashion Week. Jimmy’s Broadway projects include associate work on Be More Chill, Terms of My Surrender, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, and Head Over Heels.
Regional projects include work with The Smithsonian, The Kennedy Center, Shakespeare Theatre, Signature Theatre, Arena Stage, Bristol Riverside Theatre, Baltimore Center Stage, The Walnut Street Theatre, Hartford Stage, Norwegian Cruise Lines, The Watermill Center, Hub Theatre Co, Lively Productions, Theatre Mitu, Infinity Theatre Company.
Opera credits include productions of Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, La Cenerentola, Tosca, La Traviata, Madama Butterfly, and Le Nozze di Figaro at Opera Tampa; Tosca and Street Scene at Virginia Opera; Don Pasquale and Maria de Buenos Aires at Opera Naples; The Magic Flute and Pirates of Penzance at Opera Roanoke; and West Side Story at Utah Festival Opera. Additional projects include work at Spoleto Festival USA and Chicago Opera Theatre.
Jimmy has been the resident Lighting Designer for The Ashley Bouder Project, Animus Theatre Company, Infinity Theatre Company, and Lively Productions. He has also done corporate and retail work for: MTV/CBS, Showtime, Comedy Central, Amazon, NHL, NFL HBO, Samsung, San Pellegrino, Cadillac, Rihanna, and Tiffany & Co.
Jimmy holds an MFA in Design for Stage and Film from New York University and a BA from James Madison University in Theatre. He is a proud member of The Lambs and member of USA 829, the professional designers union.
